Description (What the record is about)
-
This letter was written by Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury to two female Friends named Amy and Evelyn. The letter relates to emerging debates about unity amongst Christian churches, Taylor Cadbury remarking on her religious views with reference to 'unity, and agreement with other Churches'. Taylor Cadbury writes that she believed 'that each Christian religious Body has a contribution to give to the whole community', adding 'even Buddha and Confucius, and certainly the Moslem religion, have something to tell us'. Taylor Cadbury writes that there ought to be 'some definite meeting ground' amongst Christians, suggesting that a spiritual and symbolical interpretation of the Sacrament would prevent disagreement and allow for the incorporation of the Religious Society of Friends.
Taylor Cadbury concludes her letter remarking that she thought Friends would not benefit from 'entering into communion, study and thought' on Faith and Doctrine 'with some other groups', noting that she would be able to learn more when she attended forthcoming meetings of the Friends' Service Council and Meeting for Sufferings.
