These interviews were instigated by Virginia Hinze who recieved funding from East Sussex County Council to record interviews relating to the work of Brighton's Parks and Gardens department. The interviews were carried out by Catherine Phillips, a horticulturalist, writer and researcher who was also the first leader and instigator of the Royal Pavilion's volunteer gardeners. The objective of the project was to record the voices and experiences of the last of the park keepers who remembered working with Ray Evison (Mike Griffin's predecessor and the successor to Bertie Hubbard MacLaren, Park Superintendent from 1921 to 1951). Cassette audio tapes and Digital Audio Tapes of the interview are included with each transcript. Items 12-15 were deposited after the first tranche (1-11) which explains the unchronological order of the list.
