Description

Concerning land between Kingsland Road and Hertford Road, later comprising York Place, renumbered Nos 495-505 Kingsland Road. Original lease is from William Rhodes to Thomas Wiggins, builder in 1827 (1), plan on deed. This is endorsed with an agreement with Richard Benyon in 1858 after he recovers the property from the Rhodes family. Wiggins leases the northern part of the site to Philip Cuxford in 1839 (2-3), plan on deed. In 1856 Wiggins and Amelia Green lease 5 York Place, Kingsland Rd to Mathew Henry Runchman and in 1858 Wiggins assigns his lease of Nos 1-5 York Place plus a timber yard on the corner of Hertford and Kingsland Roads to Runchman (4-5). In 1859 Runchman leases 3 York Place to Samuel Wright Punter (6) and in 1863 Charles Punter assigns his lease of No 4 to S.W. Punter(7) Runchman leases part of what has by then become 503 Kingsland Road to William Morley in 1868 (plan on deed, 8) and mortgages 495-505 Kingsland Road in 1872 (9).
