From Tufton Beamish in England after the Dunkirk evacuation, Jun 1940 - Oct 1941 (37 items)
In Jun 1940 his Battalion was engaged in coastal defence near Plymouth, and similarly in Jul - Dec in Norfolk. In Jan - Apr 1941 they were training in Scotland, and in Apr 1941 at Bolton. Subsequently TB was at Brigade HQ (from May), and in Oct on a Staff College course. He is very critical of organisation and facilities; and comments on the progress of the war generally, and on social life. In Norfolk there were visits from Neville Chamberlain and Anthony Eden; and in Sep 1941 he visited Lord [Stanley] Baldwin. No 5 is a copy letter from Admiral Beamish to Anthony Eden with extracts from letters of relatives at the Front
