Aircraft at Bitteswell: Lancastrian VM.733 (AS.Sa.98/99). Canberra WV.787 (AS.Sa.123/115). Canberra WD.933 (AS.Sa.408/407) first flight with series Sa.7 engines. Hunter WN.889 (AS.Sa.7062). Blackburn WB.797 (DM.206). Gannet VR.557 (DM.214). Lancaster SW.342 (ASV.1). Dakota KJ.839 Gannet WN.340 awaiting new engine installations. Outside aircraft. Sapphire development aircraft: Javelin WT.830. Javelin WT.836. Flying commenced on the English Electric P.1 (WG.760) and was satisfactory. Engine installation has been carried out in the Victor 2nd aircraft and the Vulcan in preparation for the SBAC display. Hastings TE.583 has been delivered to Defford for conversion back to a standard aircraft. Sapphire production aircraft: Hunters. Vibration has been reported on several aircraft and checks made. In most cases within permissible limits. AWA have been asked to check that there is no possibility of fouling between the engine and airframe. In one case (WN.914) he vibration was more severe and the engine has been changed. Javelin aircraft: Two production aircraft have now been flown and are to be demonstrated at the SBAC display. Double Mamba production aircraft: Gannet. Engines embodying Mod. 52 (modified compressor blading) are now installed in nearly allaircraft at Ford and flying has continued at the original rpm rating. Apollo VX.224 stalled in flight and the turbine was damaged. Apollo VX.220 is being used as a source of spares for Vx.224 ans is not likely to be flown again. Seamew flying times for the month: XA.209 (ASZ.172) 35 hours 25 minutes. XA.213 (ASZ.601) 9 hours 55 minutes. Viper aircraft: Jet provost XD.674 (V.1505 & 4 ). Folland aircraft: Midge G-39.1 (ASV.1522)
