This estate lay on the south side of Newport, within the parish of Carisbrooke. The estate was originally part of the lands of Godshouse in Southampton, which passed to Queens College, Oxford. In 1881, the college began to sell of parts of the estate in small parcels to take advantage of the southward development of Newport
