Title
F. Chambre to Hill.
Date
Petton, 27th November, 1725
Description

He believes Mr. Griffiths and his sister Nancy will consumate their affair in 3 weeks time if he can get the settlements ready, which he is now busy about. The £1,000 bond is to hand and may pass as so much of the portion till it Hill is pleased to alter in which can be done when Chambre comes to London. He will be able to pay the remaining £500 in Shropshire, out of Lord Kilmorrey's £600 and interest which Sir Thomas Brooke has appointed him to receive from his agent next Monday at Hawkestone where Mr. Price meets him to execute an assignment of that mortgage. All the planting is finished at Hawkestone and the orchard is well enclosed - he has directed Joseph to have his nursery there for the ground is good and fresh, and to store it with elms, oaks, ash, etc. They will be of service, not hurt, to the fruit trees, and save the great charge afterwards of buying. An oak so raised and stirred every third year will be as effectual for timber as raised in a wood naturally, as Chambre knows from experience. Ash is extremely useful. The fencing will be finished by Christmas. He promised the labourers work all winter, and so kept their wages low all summer. For this reason, he suggests the making of the basin in the lower court, but nothing shall be done but what Hill orders.

Post script. The Mason W. Price has finished the front of the house and put up the iron gates and pillars, which are a great beauty to the house.

Directed For the Honble. Mr. Hill.
