Hastings County Borough Council: lists of electors for the Parliamentary and Municipal...

There are two series of registers until about 1898: the registers for the election of the two parliamentary members for the Borough (DH/B 139) and the ward registers for the election of councillors, auditors and assessors (DH/B 140). The registers, 1898-1913 are missing. From 1918 there is only one series of registers (DH/B 141). There were no registers produced during the war years, 1914-1917 and 1940-1944. There are Spring and Autumn lists from 1919 to 1927 and after that just one each year. In 1945 there were lists produced in May and October giving lists for civilian residence, service, business premises and also ex-prisoners of war. DH/B 141/21-31 were in force from 15 October in the stated year to 15 October in the following year. From 1955 (DH/B 141/45) the registers were in force from 16 February in the year of publication to 15 February in the following year. The qualifying date was 10 October of the previous year. DH/B 141/1-36 are available on microfilm at Hastings Museum.

The electoral registers were transferred from Hastings Town Hall to Hastings Museum in February 2000.
