Roll of Honour (de Ruvigny)Vol II, Sect 3, p 91 - Portrait: son of the late David Con Hutton, art master, Dunedin Sch of Art & Design, by his wife, Helen Bryden, 8th d. of the late Archibald Douglas of Edinburgh. Born Dunedin 20/10/1880; educ Arthur St Sch; served apprenticeship as a Carpenter with Messrs Findlay & Murdoch and was for a number of years employed in that capacity. Subs entered employ of Mr Robert Forrest, Architect, and on 31/3/1910 registered as an Architect. In May 1914 to London, to complete studies in Architecture and obtained ARIBA diploma; joined Artists Rifles as a Cadet 15/12/15; gazetted 2Lt 15/1/17. Served BEF F&F. To Italy 10/11/17; recalled France in March 1918 and KIA at Biefvillers on 23 March. Buried about 1500 yds SSW of Achiet-le-Petit, NW of Bapaume. "Lt Knight wrote"….we were successful in holding the enemy for some time but were driven back at last. Your brother, after making a very brave stand, was shot by a machine gun as he was retiring. He died instantly, a very brave death…….." Unmarried.

Son of David Don Hutton; husband of Helen Bryden Hutton, (nee Douglas), of Dunedin, New Zealand. III. J. 29. Achiet-le-Grand Communal Cemetery Extension - Pas De Calais, France.;
