Papers of Sir James Thynne. Included are: -
1. Papers relating to the quarrels between Sir James Thynne and Sir Thomas Thynne, sons of the first marriage of Sir Thomas Thynne (d. 1639) on the one side, and Katharine, Lady Thynne, the widow and two of her sons of the second marriage viz, Henry Frederick Thynne and Theo-philus Thynne with whom wasacting, Lord Keeper Coventry 1639-1643 ff. 1-43. Among them are: -
(a) Plaint of Katharine Lady Thynne, f.1: (b) "A note of the passages of Mr [Francis] Coventry at Longleat", f.3: (c) petition of Sir James and Sir Thomas Thynne to the House of Peers: f.9,11: (d) printed statement of case of Sir Jas. Thynne. ff.15, 17: (e) statement and petition of H.F. Thynne, f.19: (f) grants of livery to Sir Jas. Thynne by Sir B. Rudyer, surveyor of the Court of wards, continued from April 1640 to Trinity 1642. ff.22-31.
2. Directions of Sir James Thynne for the ordering of his officers and servants at Longleat and elsewhere, 18 Sept. 1643. f.35.
3. Indenture of apprenticeship of William Salisbury to Sir J James Thynne for a term of seven years, 24 Sept. 1644. f. 39.
4. Particulars of Sir Jas. Thynne's estate compounded for, 19 Jan. 1646[7]. f.41.
5. "A Booke of Remembrance" of Sir James Thynne of leases etc. 1643. Signed on each page by Sir James Thynne f.45. followed at f.59 by similar memoranda for 1618-1619. Signed.
