Concerns: intentions to visit Londesborough (as Lady B expects) after his return from London; news from an attorney in Ashbourn via Mr Bonsey that people were very unhappy about Tipington [the barmaster] being turned out and that Mr Fitzherbert was of the same opinion; the Duke's message to the attorney that whilst Tipington was barmaster an enquiry was likely to be ineffectual and would hinder the Duke getting to the bottom of the affair [at Portaway mine]. Written from Chatsworth. Signed 'Devonshire'.
