Description (What the record is about)
-
This file contains correspondence with the brothers George Rennie (1791-1866) and John Rennie (1794-1874), either individually or as the partnership of G. & J. Rennie, which was established in 1821. The younger brother must not be confused with his father John Rennie (1761-1821), and for this reason he is referred to in the following list as John Rennie II. He was knighted in 1831.
The contents of the file were formerly in a portfolio entitled
Rennie G & J. 1816
This is title recorded in the Inventory of M. R. Boulton's Study Safe, where the file is listed as No. 46. However, there does not appear to be any correspondence earlier than 1818.
The documents are arranged in two chronological sequences, as follows:
Letters.
Copies.See also the correspondence on the subject of the Memoir of John Rennie (the elder) in the John Rennie file.
