Repairs in gaol completed. Bridewell: continuing work on staircase and pavement. Requested that back garden wall be raised. Recommended appointment of female assistant to matron. Number of prisoners decreased.

Addition to turnkeys' lodges estimated at £35 but needs a further £56 as internal work had not been included. Cast iron drop for executions ready but cannot be fixed until increased expenditure approved. Signed J.B. Everest.

Noted the good behaviour and cleanliness. 31 prisoners put into solitary confinement compared with 115 last year. Daily and Sunday services held. Prisoners willing to receive instruction but no real change of character.

Report of committee of magistrates of Cornwall and Devon re. Poulson Bridge, dated 11 Oct 1831

Present; Hon. Newton Fellowes, William Harris Arundell, Calmady Pollexsen Hamlyn, Francis Hearle Rodd esqs. and Rev. Samuel Hart. Essential foundation repairs made. Poor state of fabric may mean new bridge; this to be considered at next Epiphany Sessions: decided that committee should continue and consider repairs or new bridge, cost to be shared equally between Cornwall and Devon.

Up to £90 for repairs to turnkeys' lodges at Bodmin gaol. Assistant Matron to be appointed at salary of £36. Garden wall to be raised. Robert Parker Player to continue to carry prisoners from Truro to Bodmin.

John Coleman Rashleigh and John Collins, both of Endellion, labs., indicted for assaulting Mary Alfred: John Coleman Rashleigh received three months in Bodmin gaol; John Collins acquitted [Note: Sir John Colman Rashleigh was one of the justices].

Continued appeal of Padstow against order of 26 Apr. last for removal of Mary Ann Old and Mary Ann (11), Nancy (9), Fanny (7), Jane (5), Richard (3) and Maria (10 mo.) from Little Petherick to Padstow. It was stated that in 1828 Mary Ann's husband Martin Old, now living in America, rented two fields in Padstow from John Avery Corkhill at £5 p.a. for two years, and resided in Padstow for more than 40 days. Corkhill's Clerk (now bankrupt) witnessed agreement on unstamped paper: order confirmed subject to opinion of King's Bench. Padstow to pay £5 costs.
