John Hawley (1723-1785) was a painter who became an alderman and, in 1773, mayor of Doncaster. Several generations succeeded him in the trade up to J R Hawley (1815-1883), who became the first choirmaster of Doncaster, St George. Including, Miscellaneous papers 1764-1883, including militia commission 1775 and copies of wills, 1778 and 1803
