Description

Annual returns giving names, professions and residence of members of the Royal York Lodge [Moderns] and general correspondence relating to the general running of the lodge. Includes a letter asking Grand Lodge for advice on a current situation at the lodge. Years 1811 and 1812 are not extant.

Administrative / biographical background

The Royal York Lodge was named and established in 1801 and met at the Salutation Inn, Tetbury Street, Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire?. In 1807 the lodge moved to Stroud, Gloucestershire?, meeting at the Green Dragon in King Street but in 1810 they returned to the Salutation Inn at Minchinhampton. In 1813 the lodge left Minchinhampton again and moved to the King's Head Inn, Market Place, Cirencester, Gloucester. The meetings remained in Cirencester until the lodge was erased in 1820.
