This collection reflects three major areas of the creator's research interests. Primary is the material relating specifically to the generation of electrical power in the North West of England. Mr Warrington's general interest in the history of engineering is also evident in his papers as well as his abiding interest in the history of his locality, particularly the City of Salford.

This collection of his papers relates to the history of power generation in the North West of England and was started during the closure of Stuart Street Power Station in the hope that an archive within the electricity industry would be established. Power Gen showed no inclination to establish such an archive and on Mr Warrington's death his family offered the collection to this Museum.
The collection was received by the Museum in January 2000.

Walter Warrington [1934-1999] C. Eng, M.I. Mech. E., DMS attended Salford Technical College and joined the Central Electricity Generating Board as a Craft Apprentice in 1950. He worked in various power stations, notably Barton and Kearsley, and was Charge Engineer at Stuart Street Power Station until its closure in 1975.
In 1975 he started work at Ince 'B' Power Station, Elton, near Chester and was the Safety and Training Engineer until 1990. He took early retirement on the day that Power Gen took over the electricity supply companies. He then became a safety consultant, working within the construction and manufacturing industries.
