Introduction

On its formation in 1974, Wealden District Council announced an intention to begin a review of the pattern of parishes within the district. Its proposals, involving a reduction in the number of parishes from 49 to 38 and suggesting a merger of Jevington with East Dean and Friston, were published in April 1985. All the parishes objected to the proposal and both Jevington and Willingdon Parish Councils supported the idea of a merger (3/8 below)

The former councils ceased to exist on 31 March 1990 and a new Willingdon and Jevington Parish Council met for the first time on 23 April 1990. At the last meeting on 22 March 1990 a Jevington Residents' Association was formed, with the existing parish councillors elected as its committee (1/3 below)
