Donor was born in 1900 in Warrington. His mother died when he was five and soon after he and his father moved to Richmond, Sussex because his father remarried. His father was a bus driver and was called William Hancock. In 1926 donor came back to Manchester as he had a job as a chaffeur with Alan S. Dempsters in Newton Heath. In 1936 he worked for the North Western Bus Company and was known as the "Singing Bus Driver".
His first wife (to whom all the following photos relate) never went to school because she suffered from rheumatic fever and then had a heart condition - a specialist from London said she would not live until 1930, however she did not die until 1959. Her family came from Byron St, Manchester and she was called Elizabeth Castle (Cissie) nee Lord. Donor married again in 1961 to a widow, Mrs. McNulty who had ten children from her first marriage.
