Single-acting engine, with 63 inch cylinder, 9 foot stroke, chain connection.General view of the engine - partially shaded drawing; plan of the engine and round boiler and front view of the engine house and condenser; front section of the engine house and longitudinal section of the boiler - coloured drawing; ground plan of the engine and flues of rectangular boiler - coloured drawing; longitudinal section of the engine house; steam and eduction pipes, valves etc. - partially shaded drawing; section of the cylinder, piston rod cap etc. - partially shaded drawing.
Also the following later items: clack door piece, Apr. 1780; side view of beam - not dated (1780s?), drawing of a replacement beam?Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 14 [in the Drawing Office Index only].
Catalogue of Old Engines p. 300.For Chacewater Mine. According to Dickinson & Jenkins [p. 340] this engine was a reconstruction of a 72 inch engine erected by John Smeaton. However the majority of the materials appear to have been new. According to the List of Engines made at Soho, this engine was "worn out and entirely destroyed" by Aug. 1785.
