Gallantry Notes: See Cavalry Journal p 69:……"the Germans now launched a counter-attack and surrounded the gun position, but although all the detachment's horses were killed or stampeded, the gun was man-handled back to saefety and joined up with the other gun of "A" sub-sectyion under Lieut Roberts, on the outskirts of Noyelles. Both guns now engaged a body of Germans now advancing from Cantaing, at 700 yards range: the enemy was checked and the machine guns rejoined the 4th Dragoon Guards at 4.30pm. Lieut Roberts was given the MC, and Sgt Berry and L/Cpl Fisher (wounded) the MM.";
