Account, with plan, of the Sources of Spring water to Shrewsbury.

Of the nine wells and the reservoir supplying Shrewsbury with spring water, situated about a mile south-west of the town in Broad well meadow, 7 came to light during repair in 1768: the other 2 always discovered themselves on the surface.

The wells are all about 4ft deep and 3ft wide in the widest part, built with a sort of flag or slate stone, covered with large flat stones rounded, about 2 feet below the surface of the earth.

In August 1827, the wells having become invisible by weeds, a pump maker was employed to discover them, which he did, and cleaned them out and placed a brick curb round the upper part of each of the 9 wells. The pipe were forced with a fire engine from end to end which caused a large additional supply of water.
