Description

This collection contains records of the Albion Building Society. The collection includes a single minute book covering 1955 to 1966. Mortgage register and payment ledgers covering 1909 to 1961, savings ledger 1905 - 1961. Papers relating to the transferer of engagement to the Northampton Town & County Building Society in 1966.

Administrative / biographical background

The Society was founded in 1864 with the head office listed as 26 Corporation Steet Manchester in 1938, later moving to 42 Deansgate, Manchester and finally to 3 York Street in 1960. They transferred engagements to the Northampton Town & County Building Society in 1966. Which became part of the Nationwide when the Anglia, previously Northampton Town & County, Building Society merged with the Nationwide.
