Description (What the record is about)
-
Green half-leather bound album measuring 390x280mm, gilt rules on spine, the binding firm and the album generally in good condition. The dates '1900-1909' have been written in a thick felt-tip marker on the cloth of the front board. Prints are mounted up to 10 to a page, with captions wrtitten in ink beneath each image. The contents of the album can be broken down as follows:. Prints 1-14 Europe and India, 1900-02. Miscellaneous snapshots of a fishing holiday in Norway, 1900; voyage to India (via Lisbon and Gibraltar), 1900; regimental life in the Nilgiris, 1901 and with the 17th Bengal Lancers at Rawalpindi, 1902. Prints 15-233 Younghusband Mission to Tibet, 1903-04. Prints 234-464 Life and travels in Tibet, 1904-09 and work as trade agent at Chumbi and Gyantse. The album forms an edited version of the fuller documentation of Bailey's career during this period which appears in other albums in the collection and almost all the images are duplicated elsewhere: no print-by-print listing has therefore been made of this volume. However, many of the prints in this album are in better condition than other versions and are more suitable for reproduction purposes. Process = Gelatin silver prints. Photographers = Frederick Marshman Bailey,;.
