Salt Duty

William Doble, master, and William Bryant, mariner, of sloop 'Charles' of St. Ives stated on oath that they shipped at Liverpool on 4 Sep. last 2,209 bushels 46lbs of British fishery salt to carry it to Penzance on account of Alexander Mannack, fish curer. At Holyhead they ran into a storm, and the vessel, lying at anchor, struck another anchor, and sprang a leak. 260 bushels of salt were lost: Collector of Excise to cancel bond.
