The Bemrose family were established in Derby from 1815 when William Bemrose (1792-1875) moved to the town with his employers, Mozleys, printers, formerly of Gainsborough, Lincs. William Bemrose set up his own printing business in Derby in 1826-27, in which his sons Henry Howe and William jr became partners in 1858. Henry Howe Bemrose (1827-1911) married Charlotte Brindley (1831-1911) in 1855. First Mayor of the enlarged Borough of Derby in 1877-1878, he was active in public life, church affairs and charitable organisations, as well as becoming first Chairman of the family business when it was incorporated as Bemrose & Sons Ltd in 1891. H H Bemrose served as Member of Parliament for Derby from 1895-1900 and was knighted in August 1897. He received the freedom of Borough of Derby in 1910 and his funeral in May 1911 was an important civic event.
Henry Howe's son, also named Henry but known as Arnold (b. 1857), joined the family business in 1879, becoming a Director and Deputy Chairman.
His sisters were:
Ellen (1855-1861), Mrs Mary Bonus (1858-1941), Annie Adelaide (1860-1862), Mrs Charlotte Annie Davies (1862-1953) and Mrs Edith Gough (1865-1892).
Charlotte Annie married on 10 Jan 1893 'Vid' Davies (d 1926), Vicar of St Luke's, Derby from 1900-1920, and their daughter Daphne was born on 27 Jun 1904.
