Description

Evan Powell, for Powell and Swettenham, TO Lewis R.Price Letter on estate business.

1 Marrington Mill. The sale has been arranged so as to obtain an equitable partition of the property between Gough and his sisters who are at variance, but Gough will continue the mill. Powell is arranging to put one of the 2 fields Gough had to the Walkmill and the other in front of Marrington Hall to the Hall, but finds Mr. Forbes very selfish. He refuses to release one of his fields in exchange for one to be added, if the arrangement could have been carried out it would have connected all the Walkmill land and made the Walkmill a decent sized place large enough for a man to keep a paid of horses, which it is not now. Powell has however arranged for Gittins to have a road through No.163. Mr.Forbes' objection to releasing this field was that it would deprive him of part of his arable, Powell argued that arable land is rarely let with a mansion house. He proposes letting No.156 to Forbes; and No. 142 and 155 now let with Alport (Williams) ought to go with the Hall too. It would be desirable to level all fences near the Hall and put iron hurdles instead. Iron is now very cheap.

2 Powell has examined the new buildings required at Marrington Farm, Sidnal and Calcot, total £850, and suggests that Price applies for a loan of £1000 for new buildings and £2500 for draining.

An explanation of the procedure of the Lands Improvement Company is inclosed in the letter.
