The West Yorkshire College of Health Studies was formed over many years by the amalgamation of different colleges. In 1970 the Wakefield and Pontefract School of Nursing was formed and it joined the Wakefield and Pontefract Schools of Midwifery in 1990. In 1992 it joined the Pinderfields School of Physiotherapy to form the Wakefield and Pontefract College of Health Studies. The Calderdale, Huddersfield and Dewsbury Schools of Nursing and the Schools of Midwifery were independent until the six schools amalgamated into the original West Yorkshire College of Health Studies in 1992. It then amalgamated with the Wakefield and Pontefract School of Health Studies on the 1st April 1993 to form the new West Yorkshire College of Health Studies. Although it was situated on fifteen different sites, its aim was to eventually be based on one site. This happened in 1996 when it formally merged with the School of Human and Health Sciences at the University of Huddersfield.
The collection contains information from some of the independent colleges dating back to the 1940s, such as; The Calderdale School of Nursing, Wakefield Healthcare, Dewsbury School of Nursing and the Pinderfields School of Physiotherapy. Information on the Hospitals associated with the schools also include; Clayton Hospital, Pinderfields General Hospital, The General Hospital Batley, Royal Infirmary Huddersfield, Dewsbury District Hospital, Halifax General Hospital, Pinderfields Hospital. Also, more recent documents relating to the School of Human and Health Sciences at the University of Huddersfield can be found.
