Written from Winchester. First that JB has received £200. A legacy from Miss Pease for the LNA They were expecting to have JB home 'but a serious relapse of Canon Butler has prevented their starting their journey home'. JB is anxious that they should help the work in India. Though absent from England she has not been idle: 'Mr Humbert went to see her and they planned work together and she has a correspondence of deep interest to report.'

This was the beginning of the serious illness suffered by the Canon during which the doctors were doubtful whether he would survive. See letters of JB of 19 Oct and 15 Nov.
