Black, cloth-bound photograph album, measuring 150 mm x 215 mm, inscribed on front pastedown: India 1939-1940. Betty Eliot. The album contains 66 prints, a mixture of personal snapshots and professionally produced work, including views of architecture at Srinagar (Shalimar Bagh), Jaipur (Rambagh Palace, City Palace, Palace of the Winds (Hawa Mahal), Jantar Mantar), Amber, New Delhi. Beatrice Diana Eliot (1909-1984) was the sister of Ethel Nancy Eliot (1906-1961) and niece of Ralph Moise Sassoon (1902-1995). Beatrice Eliot and Ralph Sassoon feature in a number of snapshot groups, and there are also portraits of various Indian ruling families, including those of Kashmir, the Maharaj Kumar of Jaipur (a youth labelled 'Joey' in the album); and the Maharaj Kumar, the Maharaj Kumari and Maharaja of Sikkim (His Highness Sri Panch Maharaja Sir Tashi Namgyal, Maharaja Chogyal of Sikkim) after his investiture in 1939.
