These documents relate to the sale of the advowson by Thomas Wyatt of Wiltshire to William Selwyn of Lincoln's Inn in 1792. Included is an abstract of the title of the advowson, which recites the union of the two benefices by Henry King, bishop of Chichester, in 1666. For the hypochondriacal Dr John Delap, DD, the incumbent at the time of the sale, 'a man of deep learning but totally ignorant of life and manners', see Dictionary of National Biography and Colin Brent, Georgian Lewes (1993). If the advowson was bought as a speculation based on his advanced years, Selwyn was to be disappointed: Delap died at South Street, Lewes, his home since before the 1770s, in 1812 at the age of 87.
