The Committee on Roman Catholic Relations was an advisory body answerable to the BMU and the Archbishops. The function of the Committee, which consisted of not more than 15 members, was to promote relations between the Church of England and the Roman Catholic Church within England. The Committee met once or twice per year, with each member serving no longer than a 5 year term of office. The majority of the work was undertaken at joint committee meetings with the relevant sub-committee of the Roman Catholic Ecumenical Commission for England and Wales, with the body being known, for short, as 'English Arc'. (see BMU/EARC) The first meeting of the Committee took place at Church House, Westminster, on the 18 May 1972, with the Bishop of Barking in the Chair.
