Report Armstrong Siddeley Motors Ltd. Car meeting No.177

This report is a continuation of the report dated 22 September 1952. 1 General development (a) Engines. The position of the 12 experimental engines is as reported in the Minutes of 22 September 1952. The three 3.4 hemispherical head engines were replaced by the instructions issued on the 28 March 1951, and the other nine engines were scrapped due to a policy decision. (b) Gear boxes: Full information on these electrically controlled pre-selector gear boxes is as recorded in the Minutes of 22 september 1952. 1(c) All parts manufactured for the 3-speed remote controlled synchromesh gear boxes should be scrapped except those items which can be used elsewhere. (iv) The acceptable standard of synchromesh gear boxes supplied by Humber is not yet established. (c) New cars: As 22 September 1952, except No.6 has been scrapped. Six experimental cars sent to Brazil. (d) Tooling: Revised estimate of £293,000 against the previous estimate of £247,000 for tooling. (e) Weight problems. 2 Development progress. 3 Miscellaneous development. 4 Production (b) Today there are 44 Hurricanes, 132 4-light Whitleys, 124 6-light Whitleys ans 31 Station Coupes yet to be delivered, and of this total of 331 cars ( 40 of which are at agents SOR), 203 being completely built and we are continuing to complete this sanction at the rate of 13 per week
