Mrs Louisa Frances Kate von Thiele; illustrated with photographs by the Venerable Archdeacon Tribe, Mr Frederick Howell FRGS, Messrs Howlett & Oliver and the two lady travellers.
1 leather-bound typescript volume, 439p.: portrait, ill.; 27cm.
copy of a newspaper cutting (unattributed and undated - presumably published in year of Mrs von Thiele's death, 1931) regarding LFK von Thiele's will. Copied on to acid-free paper and stored inside front board of volume. Cutting states: "Will tribute to Viscount/ Woman's bequest 'As a token of love and gratitude'/ Mrs. Louisa Frances Kate Thiele, of Albany-road, St. Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex, who left £9,517, desired in her will to be buried in Hastings cemetery, in the grave in which her son, Basil Whitty Theale, is buried./ 'I direct,' the will stated, 'that my wedding-ring be left on my finger and buried with me, and the locket with miniature of my dear son Basil containing a piece of his hair, be put round my neck and also buried with me, also the little parcel containing his worn shoes and gloves placed as near over my heart as possible'. She left the residue of her property to Col. John Standish Surtees Prendergast Vereker, 6th Viscount Gort, or his children, 'as a token of my love and gratitude to him... and I wish to express to Lord Gort that the great happiness of my life has been in watching his fine character develop itself, his successful career, and the use he has made of his talents, wealth, and position in the unselfish service of his country'."
