Violet Emily Graham was born in 1911. She first visited Guyana in 1946 and for many years she worked as senior biology teacher at Bishop?s High School for girls in Georgetown, Guyana. She identified and drew plants, and worked with the Director and Staff of Kew Herbarium to identify over 500 specimens of tropical flora. She also worked with Mr. S. G. Harrison, Keeper of Botany Department of the National Museum of Wales to correct proofs. She wrote several books about the nature of British Guiana (Guyana) in the mid-20th century.
