Description

Lancaster SW.342 (ASZ.107 & AS.A.1) Adder installation. Performance testing of the standard Adder installation with 8' dia nozzle was completed early in the month with a level of 22,000 ft and a report of the analysis of these tests being issued. Marathon G-AHXU (ASZ.117/118) de Havillands completed the fitting of the propellers and systems to the aircraft and commenced flight testing with the reverse propeller braking system. Apollo G-AIYN (ASZ.123/128/130/131) installation of the new engines is now completed and pre-flight ground testing carried out. An initial test flight being made before the end of the month. Fairey Gannet VR.546 (DM.208) White Waltham. The engine DM.208 from WE.488 was installed and adjustments made to the constant speeding rpm to obtain satisfactory ground handling. Fairey Gannet VR.557 White Waltham. The 11 ft diameter propellers which were awaited last month were received and fitted and the engine control reset. Lancaster TW.911 (ASP.911/110) Bitteswell. Flying resumed on this aircraft when the repaired propellers were received on the cancelling of the instructions to ground the aircraft. Wyvern VP.109 (ASP.138 & ASP.166) Farnborough. The flying ban on the Wyverns prevented flight early in the month although routine testing was carried out. Wyvern VW.876 (ASP.111) Farnborough.This aircraft has not yet been flown after the raising of the flying ban due to awaitingdelivery of a modified PCU. This has now been received and installed. Wyvern VW.868 (ASP.113) Bitteswell. Flying has resumed after fitting odified PCU and a replacement cockpit canopy. Lancastrian VM.733 (AS. Sa.39/99) Bitteswell. Performance testing up to high altitudes was continued with the engine set to the standard rating of 8300rpm. Meteor WA.820 (AS.Sa.105/108) Bitteswell. Following the installation of Sa.108 the aircraft was test flown and then delivered to Moreton Vallance for Glosters to carry out tests and clear the aircraft for higher speeds.Hastings TE.583 (AS.Sa.102/104) Bitteswell. Undercarriage repairs have been carried out this month otherwise there has been nothing to report. Canberra WD.933 Installation work on the engines is nearly completed and running will be commenced shortly
