Description

Letter of William Lyall, Secretary, Royal Oak Lodge, Ripon, meeting at the York Minster tavern, to William White, signed by Thomas Mainman, Worshipful Master, George Rumfitt, Senior Warden, William Scoope, Junior Warden and William Turner, Treasurer, sending a two Pound banknote for registering two initiates and one joining member and a sum for the Charity Fund.

Administrative / biographical background

Royal Oak Lodge was granted a warrant to meet at the Royal Oak inn, Kirkgate, Ripon, Yorkshire as No. 495 by the Moderns' Grand Lodge on 22 June 1776. The Lodge was renumbered as No. 400 in 1780, as No. 401 in 1781 and No. 324 in 1792. From 1809 the Lodge met at the Minster Inn, Cathedral Yard, Ripon. After the union between the Moderns' and Antients' Grand Lodges to form the United Grand Lodge of England, the Lodge was renumbered as No. 412. The Lodge was erased on 5 March 1828.
