Gallantry Notes: LG: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during a hostile attack, when, in spite of heavy shell fire, he kept his guns in action and inflicted severe loss on the enemy. When one gun was knocked out and the enemy appeared in the trench behind him, he got away with the remaining gun to a flank and assisted in covering the retirement of another unit and then fought his way back to the new line.;
