A former Methodist Chapel (opened in 1833), this was enlarged and consecrated in 1855 and in 1856 was created a district chapelry out of Clifton. A larger church was later built on an adjoining site and consecrated in 1882. The old church building was sold to the Corporation for use as a free library, the proceeds being used to help pay off the debt on the new church but the old building was repurchased and opened in 1907 as a Parish Hall. Owing to the decline of population in the area the parish was united in 1938 with St. Andrew-the-Less and Holy Trinity, the latter becoming the parish church. The church of St. Peter, then being redundant, was demolished in January 1939.
