Petition of John Wilson, Quarter Master, Royal Artillery Driver, to form a Lodge held in Captain George Massey's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery Drivers, Colchester to Robert Leslie, Grand Secretary signed by James Thompson, Worshipful Master elect, master collar maker, from Trafalgar Lodge, No. 111 [SN 1441], Colchester; Jarvis Wharin, Senior Warden elect, staff sargeant Royal Artillery, from Trafalgar Lodge, No. 111 [SN 1441], Colchester; Archibald Gilchrist, Junior Warden elect, Staff Sergeant Royal Artillery, from Trafalgar Lodge, No. 111 [SN 1441], Colchester; James Wright, carpenter, Royal Artillery, from Lodge held in the Twenty-third Regiment of Foot (Royal Welsh Fusileers), No. 252 [SN 1127], Colchester; John Bain, Corporal Royal Artillery, from St Luke's Lodge, No. 309 [SN 1442], Ipswich; John Page, Corporal Royal Artillery, from an unnamed Lodge, No. 230 [SN 43], Woolwich and John Wilson, Quarter Master Royal Artillery, from Knight of Malta Lodge, No. 309 [SN 1426], Colchester. Endorsed with letter of John Wilson informing Robert Leslie that the Petition is approved by the Commanding Officer of the Royal Horse Artillery drivers' troop and the proposed members are good Masons. Sent from Ipswich, Suffolk to headquarters at Colchester, Essex, for military duties, Wilson hopes that the proposed Lodge will join other Lodges meeting in the Royal Horse Artillery. There are about twenty registered freemasons in the Artillery at Colchester who are prevented from joining the town lodge, where Brother Cass is Worshipful Master, as troops are confined to quarters by 8pm. Wilson, who was Worshipful Master of St Luke's Lodge, No. 309 [SN 1442], Ipswich, informs Leslie that he is keen to promote the interests of the Craft.
