Claughton was purchased by Roger of Brockholes in 1338 and Heaton-in-Lonsdale came to John of Brockholes by marriage about 1380. The Heskeths of Mains succeeded, through marriage, in 1751 and, again through marriage, the estate came to the Fitzherberts in 1783.
