8 horse power independent crank engine, with 17? inch cylinder, 2½ foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron beam, cast iron connecting rod.Reverse side view of the engine and cross-section of the boilers, plan of the engine and boilers (these two drawings are shaded), cross-section of the foundations, longitudinal section of the boiler. Both sheets of drawings bear letter codes.
Original portfolio or 'Book' No. 640. Catalogue of Old Engines p. 218, 242.
For the West Indies. Sugar plantation engine ordered by Thomas King of 4 Winchester St., London (later New Court, Old Broad St., London). Engine Order Book No. 7 and the first part of the List of Engines made at Soho says that this engine was for Essequibo, but the geographical section says that it was for Demerara. Henry Hazleton listed this engine twice in the Catalogue of Old Engines, once in the Sugar Plantation Engines section and once in the British Engines where he noted it as a 10 horse.
