This collection comprizes map and plans, and a few prints and photographs received by Newcastle City Archives in the years prior to 1974.

As far as can be ascertained, the records came mainly from Town Clerks and Property Surveyors Departments although some originated with the City Engineer and Medical Officer of Health. Where the records could be identified as "escapes" from surviving series received from City Departments, they have as far as possible been slotted back into their original series. Records relate to Newcastle, unless otherwise specified. A general subject organization has been employed.
