Description

The records concern the death from gas poisoning of 16624 Private Daniel J. Hinton, 1st Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment in the early hours of Tuesday 21 December 1915 at No.17 Casualty Clearing Station. The battalion, occupying trenches at Wieltje near Ypres had suffered particularly from German gas shells.

His widow, Mrs A. Hinton, had lived at Smeeton Westerby but possibly due to the war had removed to lodgings with a Mrs. G. Perkins at Guilsborough in Northamptonshire.
