Acc: 1985/007: Illuminated address from the Council of the City of Birmingham to Alderman George Hubert Humphreys, J.P. Lord Mayor. This also records the Council's warmest appreciations for Mrs Humphreys as Lady Mayoress.
Acc: 2013/139: A photographic album presented by the Directors of Birmingham Gazette Ltd to Mr and Mrs Humphreys, Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress 1949-1950. Also included are some individual photographic prints by the Birmingham Post and Mail, relating to this mayorality.

Gertrude and Hubert Humphreys were married in 1927. They were both active in politics, business and drama and both were friendly with George Bernard Shaw.
Gertrude was born in Wem, Shropshire and attended Summer Hill Grammar School and Mason College, Birmingham. Between 1908 and 1912 she was secretary of the Sutton Branch of the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies. She later helped to form the Birmingham Repertory Playgoers Society.
Hubert was born in Handsworth and attended King Edwards Grammar School. He left school to work as a blacksmith. He later became an actor, but returned to industry and became managing director of the Midland Fan Co. Ltd, ventilating engineers and spraying plant specialists of Aston Road. Gertrude was also a director of this company and they were both directors of BIF Engineering Co Ltd.
Gertrude and Hubert both had a longstanding interest in politics. Gertrude served as secretary of the Birmingham Fabian Society and Hubert joined the Fabians after resig
