Description (What the record is about)
-
J. de Jager (Sheffield) to Richd. How (Aspley) Has better lodgings at 8s. p. wk. - The smoak is in the morning when they light their fires the worse - It is a pity your nephew is so very much bound with Mr. Fairbank -The country hereabouts is very pleasing, but instead of our gravel walks we have here cole & cinders walks which is rather a little disagreable. The labouring people, black as they are, are very fond of having a little country seat if it is only of 15 or 20 yards square to relief themselves in a leisure hour. This is the reason why Sheffield is so very much surrounded with gardens. These people pay the owner of the land ld. a year for the square yard, which comes at £10 a acker .... - Account of a performing pig called the Pig of Knowledge - Notes on dialect & language.
