Administrative / biographical background

Mrs Harrison's grandfather, Richard Carroll lived in Liverpool and was employed as a docker advancing to a supervisory position on the docks. He was deeply involved in trade union activity and is believed to have been one of the founder members of the Transport and General Workers Union in which he held field office. He was one the four Labour Councillors on the Bootle Council.

Richard Carroll and Mrs Elizabeth Carroll had one son Richard C. Carroll who was killed while serving in the Royal Artillary during World War I and daughters, Grace (born 1883) Sarah (born 1888) and Lena (1893).
