In 1910, the expenses of running the Cathedral began to be accounted separately from the Chapter Estates income and expenditure. An amount was paid into the Expense account from the Estates income. In 1933, the Parish of Manchester Revenues Measure dictated that the Dean and Chapter became responsible for the repair and maintenance of the fabric of the whole Cathedral instead of just the Quire and the Chapter House. The measure required the Chapter revenues to be allocated as follows, after provision for the costs of estates management and repairs: i) £55,000 to be paid annually to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners. ii) £9,000 to be retained annually by the Chapter. iii) £6,000 or such less sum as may be available to be divided equally between the Commissioners and the Chapter. Any surplus revenues above the £70,000 were to be divided by the consent of the Bishop and the Commissioners between the Cathedral and the Manchester incumbents. The receipts of the Chapter after the above rules were followed were accounted for as the 'Manchester Cathedral Revenue Account', which took the place of the 'Cathedral Expense Account'.
