[Walter Miles was employed as head gardener at Caversham Park, the mansion then owned by the Crawshay family, later the headquarters of the B.B.C. World Service. Following the break-up of the estate in 1920, Mr Miles set up as an independent gardener at 139 Caversham Road, Reading, supplying fruit, flowers, plants and vegetables, including wreaths and bouquets.]
