Double-acting engine, with 42 inch cylinder, 8 foot stroke, parallel motion, cast iron beam.
Reverse plan of the engine house and blowing cylinder, plan and section of the boilers, longitudinal section of the engine house and blowing cylinder, cross-section of the engine house, view of the lever wall (these drawings were originally marked "Benjamin Gibbons Jr. & Co. Gospel Oak", but Gospel Oak has been crossed out and replaced with Wednesbury Oak); cross-section of "one of the intended boilers for the blowing engine at Gospel Oak brought by their man 5 May 1814"; 3 rough sketches of the air pump and condenser. The reverse drawings bear letter codes.
Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 667. Catalogue of Old Engines p. 272.
For Jones Whitehouse & Co., ordered by Benjamin Gibbons Jr. & Co. Wednesbury Oak Works. This engine was ordered by Benjamin Gibbons Jr. & Co. for Jones Whitehouse & Co., a concern in which they had a share. The engine is noted as "Gibbons & Co. 2" in Engine Order Book No. 8, but Book 667 was opened in the name of Jones Whitehouse & Co. Note that the Catalogue of Old Engines erroneously gives this engine the code TT, which was the code of Gibbons' 42 inch engine for Level Iron Works in 1809 [see Portfolio 5/679a above]. The Catalogue also fails to mention Jones Whitehouse & Co.
