The following notes were compiled from conversation with Mrs. L. W. Rivers about the Waller family.
William Waller, gentleman (1798-1863), lived at Burford (Oxon.). His son, Frederick Sandham Waller (1822-1905), married Annie Elizabeth Hitch in 1845, and went into an architectural partnership with Thomas Fulljames the following year. Between 1859 and 1861 F. S. Waller and his wife undertook the management of Sandywell Park lunatic asylum on behalf of his father-in-law, who was then living at Southwick Park, Tewkesbury, but Dr. Hitch persistently overspent his income, and the asylum had to be sold to meet his debts.
F. S. Waller moved to Barnwood and concentrated on his architectural practice. He was appointed Supervisor of the Cathedral Works in 1872, and Architect in 1878. His son, Frederick William Waller (1846-1933), had originally no intention of being an architect, but went into partnership with his father c.1868. F. S. Waller died in 1905, and in about 1903 F. W. Waller was in turn joined by his son, Colonel N. H. Waller (1881-1961), who became a partner about 1920. The family ceased to be actively involved with the partnership on Colonel Waller's death in 1961.
